Alan Jouban believes that UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has already secured his legacy.
In 2024, Pereira had an exceptional year, achieving knockouts against Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka, and Khalil Rountree within a six-month span during title fights. With just 10 fights in the octagon, “Poatan” has already claimed UFC titles in two different weight classes.
UFC analyst and former fighter Jouban argues that Pereira (12-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) has accomplished enough to be worthy of a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame.
“If he retires tomorrow, nobody in the history of the UFC has done what he has done in such a short amount of time,” Jouban stated on MMA on SiriusXM. “Look at what he has done. It’s unprecedented, so I would say yes.”
Jouban elaborates on what sets Pereira apart from others.
“Not only does he have this mystique and a substantial following among kids and people of all ages, carrying the UFC on his shoulders, but he excels at finishing fights,” Jouban noted. “When Alex Pereira is in the main event of any card, no matter the time of year, spectators leave thrilled because they witness a knockout.”
“They get to see a stunning knockout early. There’s a lack of reliability in this aspect with many other fighters. Even with big names, you can’t always ensure a knockout like you can with Alex Pereira. When he’s in the octagon, it’s certain that someone is getting knocked out, and that’s the talk the next day.”
