Conor McGregor has had to pull out of his UFC 303 bout this weekend owing to a broken toe. Stepping in as his replacement is Alex Pereira, who, having previously defended his UFC light heavyweight title with a similar injury, will now face Jiri Prochazka in the main event at T-Mobile Arena on short notice.
The championship showdown was arranged only a few weeks prior following the cancellation of McGregor’s match against Michael Chandler. While some have raised concerns about McGregor’s decision to withdraw, others have come to his defense.
Reflecting on his past experience of competing with an injury, Pereira remarked, “I can never judge people’s pain, and it’s different scenarios, different situations. He made his name, he made his money, and I’m kind of halfway there. I fought with a broken toe in my situation, but maybe if I were in his situation, maybe I would’ve not fought, so I can’t judge.”
Pereira and Prochazka are set to go head-to-head in a rematch, with Pereira having emerged victorious in their previous encounter to claim the light heavyweight title. Both fighters have since secured wins and are now looking to strengthen their standings in the division at UFC 303.
