Aljamain Sterling has decided not to fight Movsar Evloev at UFC 307 in Salt Lake City on Oct. 5 due to an injury sustained while training. The former bantamweight champion, now fighting at 145 pounds, announced this in a video on his YouTube channel. Sterling revealed that despite undergoing treatments like stem cell therapy, he was advised by UFC medical experts not to rush back to competition due to his injury. Although surgery is not necessary for Sterling’s elbow injury, the treatment has not been effective enough for him to be ready for the upcoming October fight.

Although there is a chance that Sterling may come back to compete later in the year, he will not be participating in UFC 307. The UFC has not yet set a new date for Evloev’s fight against a different opponent, but Sterling has proposed postponing the match. He understands Evloev’s desire for a title shot and supports the option of looking for a different opponent.

The UFC 307 event will go on with title bouts including Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight title against Khalil Rountree Jr. and Raquel Pennington defending her bantamweight championship against Julianna Pena. Despite Sterling’s withdrawal, Evloev has confirmed his readiness to stay on the card and face any challenger.
