Ben Askren didn’t mince words when he criticized Conor McGregor following the cancellation of McGregor’s fight against Michael Chandler. McGregor was supposed to face Chandler at UFC 303 in June but had to pull out due to a broken toe. Askren believes McGregor’s lifestyle decisions, such as partying and skipping out on training camp, are the reasons behind his prolonged absence from the octagon. Askren even hinted that McGregor might be struggling with substance abuse problems.
Despite McGregor’s assurances of being prepared to fight and undergoing regular drug testing, UFC President Dana White never truly believed McGregor would make a comeback in 2023. McGregor’s prolonged hiatus from the sport has left many wondering about his future in the UFC.
