Promoter Eddie Hearn recently shared that Edgar Berlanga’s undefeated super middleweight title shot against Padraig McCrory on February 24th is just the beginning. He mentioned that Berlanga still has “a couple of big fights” lined up if he emerges victorious in the 12-round headliner at Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida, which will be broadcast live on DAZN.

Potential Future Bout: Berlanga vs. Munguia

Hearn expressed interest in potential matchups against either Jaime Munguia or David Benavidez for Berlanga, especially favoring the prospect of a showdown with Munguia. This particular fight would capture the attention of boxing fans as it would bring together Mexico and Puerto Rico in the ring.

However, Berlanga (21-0, 16 KOs) faces a tough challenge against WBA No. 3 McCrory (18-0, 9 KOs), who is known for his talent and ability to deliver powerful blows. The upcoming fight will test Berlanga’s chin, given his past vulnerability to knockdowns from opponents who are not known for their punching prowess.

“He has a couple of big fights coming up. [David] Benavidez is a big fight. Canelo Alvarez is a big fight,” remarked Eddie Hearn about the potential options awaiting Edgar Berlanga if he emerges triumphant against Padraig McCrory on February 24th.

If Berlanga were to suffer defeat at the hands of McCrory, it would be a significant setback for Hearn, who had high hopes for Berlanga to secure a major fight, potentially against someone of the caliber of Canelo Alvarez, after securing him from Top Rank and making a substantial financial investment.

Overcoming the McCrory Challenge

Commenting on the upcoming battle, Hearn expressed his desire to see Berlanga facing Jaime Munguia, stating, “He has a lot of options in front of him.” McCrory himself acknowledged the significance of the bout, saying, “I’m one shot away from changing my life forever,” and expressed his determination to seize the opportunity and potentially face big names such as Canelo.

“I think he’s underestimating me. I think he’s a bit overconfident,” remarked McCrory, noting Berlanga’s previous vulnerabilities. “He has had some tough moments in fights, which indicates that there’s a chance I could defeat him as well.”
