Bill Haney faced questions about a leaked video showing Devin Haney sparring with Gervonta Davis, where Tank seemed to have the upper hand and Adrien Broner intervened to prevent further escalation. Haney is now in damage control mode following the release of this footage.
During the discussions about Devin’s sparring session with Tank Davis, Bill appeared uneasy and defensive, akin to being under intense scrutiny. He was pressed about the incident like being interrogated by Grand Inquisitor Torquemada.
Connection with Mayweather
Speculations suggest that Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have provided the video to Ryan after Bill Haney boasted about Devin’s progress ahead of his fight with Conor McGregor in 2017. Allegedly, Floyd retired after that defeat.
Bill challenged Floyd to show footage of Devin outperforming him during their sparring sessions. Bill recalled his 6-0 record against Devin back in 2017.
Bill’s demand for Mayweather sparring footage release
“It was very one-sided. I had a 6-0 lead after six rounds,” Bill Haney stated, referencing media coverage of Devin’s rapid ascent alongside Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017, a scenario that never unfolded with Adrien Broner.
“Although we hold him in high regard, I had to speak the truth. I initially refrained from bringing it up [Devin’s dominance over Mayweather in sparring] until he started sharing sparring clips.”
Credibility concerns
Bill requested Floyd to reveal significant sparring footage. He highlighted the 6-0 score in favor of Devin over Mayweather, questioning the genuine interest in watching the match. When asked how Devin managed to overcome Mayweather, Bill claimed, “I made Floyd quit.”
“He surrendered in the gym. That’s the rule of sparring. If someone quits, how can you declare a win? We don’t rely on judges; the victor is the one who stops. Tank halted himself. No one else needed to step in and stop Tank.”
“Mayweather was pulling the strings, bringing the youngster in,” Bill remarked about Mayweather’s influence on Ryan. “I told Leonard Ellerbe to convey to Floyd, ‘Let him go.’ Release the shackles.”
