Last Saturday, Bill Haney showed up at Conor Benn’s post-fight press conference to talk about his son Devin Haney’s prospects for a fight against the welterweight following Benn’s disappointing 12-round unanimous decision loss to Peter Dobson at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

Benn expressed being “eager” to face Haney next, while promoter Eddie Hearn seemed entertained but clearly not in favor of this immediate matchup.

Hearn is currently trying to negotiate a match between Haney and Ryan Garcia, so he is not keen on the idea of Devin pulling out of a potentially lucrative fight to face Benn in a high-stakes bout.

Bill Haney’s suggestion: Personal consideration or self-interest?

Despite Benn’s less than stellar performance against Dobson, he still displayed flashes of his power, and Haney should be cautious, as the same punch from Benn could result in a knockout.

“Congratulations, Connor. Well done. It may not have been the performance you desired, but we acknowledge your role in the game. We’re here to offer congratulations. I wanted to, and perhaps I could do something about it,” Bill Haney said to Conor Benn after his victory over Peter Dobson last Saturday night at the post-match press conference.

Connor Benn: “I’m enthusiastic about that fight. I’m ready,” Benn expressed his interest in fighting Devin Haney next.

Naturally, Benn would want to fight Haney as it could benefit his career more than facing Chris Eubank Jr. There’s simply no comparison.

Bill Haney: “I have respect for you and your family – Nigel Benn and Conor. It would certainly be an honor and a pleasure if that fight were to be announced. Thank you for inviting me.”

“Let’s see if this performance is something he can build on. He got the job done. I didn’t know much about Dobson, so for some reason, I don’t want to judge him based on this fight. He got the job done. Let’s see what happens next. Dobson didn’t have much happening, so I think he may have surprised Connor.”
