The President of NWA, Billy Corgan, has spoken out about the controversy surrounding The CW’s supposed concerns regarding the cocaine scene at NWA Samhain.

During NWA Samhain, there was a moment where James Mitchell was shown snorting something off a spoon, hinting at cocaine use. Reports from Nick Hausman at Haus of Wrestling suggested that this could potentially put NWA’s TV deal with The CW at risk.

However, in an interview with Jeremy Lambert & Joel Pearl on In The Weeds, Billy Corgan clarified that The CW had no issue with the controversial scene. According to Jeremy Lambert of Fightful, Corgan mentioned that The CW actually found it amusing.

Billy Corgan stated, “After the ‘cocaine spot’ where Sinister Minister and his hot minions were snorting sugar off a table in Cleveland, that story took a life of its own. ‘NWA is going to lose its CW deal, they’ve lost their CW deal.’ About four days after the event, CW, I don’t want to say who, but certainly one of the top people at CW called me and said, ‘What is this all about?’”

Corgan also shared his amusement at the “pearl-clutching” responses to the scene and the unfounded rumors that it had a negative impact on NWA’s deal with The CW. He emphasized that The CW did not see any wrongdoing in the situation.

“If people were offended by the scene, that’s understandable; that’s part of wrestling. But the exaggerated reactions from some quarters, that was really entertaining,” Corgan added.

NWA officially announced their streaming agreement with The CW in February 2024, ensuring that NWA Powerrr would continue to be accessible on The CW website.
