Tyson Fury arrived at his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, appearing heavier than ever. Known as the Gypsy King, Fury weighed in at 281 pounds on Saturday, marking a significant increase from his previous bout.
Fury’s notable weight gain has stirred much discussion. He stepped onto the scales fully clothed, complete with a leather jacket, leading some to speculate that this might be another of his psychological tactics, suggesting he could potentially be lighter than reported.
The added weight has drawn criticism concerning Fury’s physical form. Tim Bradley, a Hall of Fame fighter and former world champion, candidly shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel, criticizing Fury’s condition.
“Fury looks fat and out of shape. You can see the tire around his waist. He looks exactly like he did when he fought Ngannou. He doesn’t look prepared at all,” Bradley stated.
Bradley believes Fury’s approach of gaining weight to physically overpower Usyk is flawed. He highlighted that Usyk is not Deontay Wilder, labeling Fury’s strategy as “stupid.”
“Usyk is a technician. He’ll use movement and leg work. He’ll target Fury’s body and take advantage when Fury overextends his punches,” Bradley noted.
The former champion anticipates that Usyk will win by stoppage, asserting that Usyk has learned how to effectively tackle Fury after their initial encounter.
This rematch is vital for Fury. Securing a victory would maintain his standing as one of the leading heavyweights of his time. Usyk previously secured the win in their first fight by split decision when Fury weighed 262 pounds.
Despite the critique, Fury has a history of defying expectations. The fight is set to be a showdown between two of boxing’s elite heavyweights, with both fighters eager to conclusively resolve their rivalry.
