Michael Chandler, a former three-time Bellator Lightweight champion, has been patiently waiting for a promised fight against Conor McGregor. McGregor had to pull out of their scheduled match at UFC 303 due to a broken pinky toe, which was a first for McGregor. As a consolation, Chandler, 38, has been offered a UFC Lightweight title shot against current champion Islam Makhachev.

Despite the chance to move forward, Chandler still hopes for his “red panty night” with McGregor. In a tweet, Chandler mentioned his readiness to face Makhachev in October but kept the option open for McGregor if he recovers by September.

Chandler’s most recent bout ended in a defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281, making his record 1-3 in the last four fights. Poirier, who lost to Makhachev, hinted at a potential rematch if No. 1-ranked contender Arman Tsarukyan’s suspension impacts his title opportunity.

The MMA community is filled with excitement about the upcoming matchups and potential face-offs in the lightweight division.
