Chantel Cameron feels dissatisfied with her upcoming rematch with Katie Taylor.
In May, Cameron beat Taylor in a high-profile match in Dublin, retaining the undisputed light welterweight title with a majority decision victory. Originally, the bout was meant to be a rematch between Taylor and Amanda Serrano for Taylor’s lightweight title, but Serrano withdrew due to injury and was replaced by Cameron. This Saturday, Cameron and Taylor will have a rematch at the same location, with Cameron once again putting the title on the line, and she’s not too happy about it.
Cameron expressed frustration with the terms of the rematch, stating, “It’s like déjà vu. I’m singing along to Katie’s song again.” She highlighted her injury during the previous match and her determination to seize the opportunity to compete against Taylor. Cameron also stated her belief that she can beat Taylor again, but she feels the current situation is not ideal for her.
Cameron explained that she had to deal with a triceps injury during the previous training camp, which affected her ability to punch for several weeks. Despite not facing the same injury this time, she still finds the situation less than ideal.
Regarding the rematch location and the terms, Cameron expressed frustration, questioning why the fight had to take place in Dublin and why she couldn’t have the rematch in England, the Middle East, or America. She also voiced concerns about the lack of a rematch clause and whether the terms favored Taylor.
Cameron acknowledged that Taylor’s popularity allowed her to make decisions about the rematch terms, but she remains confident in her abilities and is focused on giving her best performance in the upcoming rematch.
Cameron emphasized that she is focused on herself and the upcoming match, despite the frustrations with the terms and potential outcomes. She is determined to give her best and secure the victory in the rematch.
Cameron vs. Taylor 2 will take place on Saturday night at the 3Arena in Dublin.
