Ciryl Gane provided an explanation for his underwhelming performance at UFC 310. The former interim heavyweight champion managed to secure a split decision victory over Alexander Volkov in their rematch, relying heavily on a wrestling strategy that starkly contrasted with his usual striking style.

In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Gane expressed dissatisfaction with his performance, noting that he sustained a toe injury in the first round. This injury hindered him significantly throughout the match.

On the following Monday, Gane took to social media to share X-rays of his foot injury, providing a visual account of the damage he had sustained during the fight.

In his Instagram Stories, Gane revealed that his injury extended beyond just his toe, as he also suffered damage to two metatarsals, which he highlighted in a screenshot. He stated that his foot was effectively useless for the remainder of the bout.

The fight’s scoring has stirred considerable debate, with two judges awarding the first two rounds to Volkov. MMA Fighting scored the match 30-27 in favor of Volkov, and 19 out of 20 media scores on MMA Decisions also favored Volkov.

Despite the contentious scoring, Gane officially improved his record against Volkov to 2-0 and raised his overall UFC record to 10-2.
