Jake Paul’s recent victory over the 58-year-old Mike Tyson has sparked a lot of talk in the boxing world. The YouTuber turned boxer won by unanimous decision in an eight-round match that many found controversial and lacking in excitement.
After the fight, several world champions have set their sights on Paul, seeing potential matchups as easy money-making opportunities. Claressa Shields, a five-time world champion and a highly regarded female athlete in the sport, has shared her thoughts on the prospect of facing Paul.
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Shields expressed her blunt opinion:
“I don’t think Jake Paul has the skills to compete in the ring with me or any of the fighters ranked in the 154-pound division or higher. To be honest, I don’t believe he could beat anyone ranked from 1 to 10 in any weight class.”
Shields reiterated her stance on social media, saying,
“I’ll knock him out by stoppage ????”
Additionally, she had direct advice for fellow champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Shields also called out other boxers:
“To all of you that Jake Paul is challenging – including you, Mr. King Canelo – if he claims he can beat you, why not just go and prove him wrong? Why use the excuse that he hasn’t earned the right to fight you or that he’s not a real boxer? Show him who the real boxer is. Demonstrate it. It’s an easy payday! I heard he made 40 million dollars from this fight, while Tyson earned 20 million. If they are willing to pay Canelo that much for someone they say can’t fight, let’s be realistic.”
At just 27 years old, Paul has made a name for himself in the boxing world by engaging in high-profile events. Despite the criticism of his fight against Tyson, it turned out to be financially lucrative, with ‘Iron’ Mike showing glimpses of his former self despite his age.
As the buzz surrounding the Tyson bout settles, Paul is expected to reveal his next moves soon. The boxing community eagerly awaits to see who will step up to the challenge – and the enticing financial incentive – next.
