Former world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott believes his charge will return to the ring next year.
“Deontay is doing fine. He’s had a couple of surgeries and is recovering. He’s doing really well. Is he still the same hungry guy we saw in the first 2-3 years after coming from where he came from, accomplishing what he accomplished, and making as much money as he made? Probably not. He’s found other sources of motivation and inspiration, things that motivate him, and so on.”
But I’m more happy that Deontay got what he came into boxing for. He’s extremely healthy, he walked away alive, the fees were high. And if Deontay wants to keep going, and I know he will because fights are in his heart, 2025 is going to be big for him.
He has tons of options. Even though you haven’t seen him since his loss to Zhang Zhilei, Deontay still has tons of options because he’s a boxing star,” Scott said in an interview with YouTube channel The Stomping Ground.
