Colby Covington, the former interim UFC welterweight champion, has once again publicly criticized basketball icon LeBron James during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, dubbing him as “Captain America Hater.”
Covington, currently holding the fourth spot in the welterweight division rankings, has been out of action since his defeat to Leon Edwards at UFC 296 in December. He is anticipated to make a comeback later this year and is rumored to face Ian Garry or engage in a rivalry bout with Dustin Poirier.
In a social media video, Covington questioned James being selected to carry the American flag at the Olympics, raising doubts about James’ contributions to job creation in the U.S. or ensuring fairness to the workers producing his footwear in foreign lands.
At this year’s Summer Olympics, James and Team USA secured the gold medal in the men’s basketball final by beating France 98-87. Covington’s critique of James adds to a trend where UFC fighters, such as King Green, have publicly voiced their interest in challenging the basketball superstar.
