Colby Covington Ends Layoff at UFC Tampa

Colby Covington hasn’t fought since suffering a disappointing decision loss to Leon Edwards last December, marking his third attempt at claiming the welterweight title.

Since that defeat, there had been limited information regarding Covington’s return to the Octagon. However, ‘Chaos’ made a significant move by stepping up on short notice to headline UFC Tampa against Joaquin Buckley in what promises to be an exciting matchup.

Covington’s record stands at 17-4, with the recent loss to Edwards impacting his momentum. The former interim welterweight champion boasts a 12-4 record inside the Octagon, with notable victories over renowned fighters such as Robbie Lawler, Rafael dos Anjos, Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia, and Jorge Masvidal, among others.

On the other side of the cage, Joaquin Buckley brings a record of 20-6, having recently secured a knockout victory against Stephen Thompson. Since dropping to the welterweight division, Buckley remains undefeated at 5-0 and has achieved impressive wins over opponents including Vicente Luque, Nursulton Ruziboev, Alex Morono, and Andre Fialho.
