John Kavanagh, Conor McGregor’s coach for many years, is just as clueless as everyone else in the MMA community about what McGregor’s next move will be.

During an appearance on the MMA Hour with his business partner Rich Chou, Kavanagh had intended to discuss their company’s future, however, the conversation quickly shifted to McGregor. The former UFC champion has been eager to return to fighting following a leg injury at UFC 264 in July 2021, but currently finds himself without a fight scheduled. Kavanagh sympathizes with fans who are also eagerly awaiting news about McGregor.

Kavanagh mentioned, “I’m not privy to the politics or behind-the-scenes workings. All I can say is that it’s strange we haven’t heard any updates.” He acknowledged that McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar, along with the team, are handling negotiations with UFC. Kavanagh finds it unusual that a star like McGregor is not being offered more fighting opportunities.

McGregor has been a major draw for the UFC, generating significant pay-per-view revenue and raising the organization’s profile. However, due to various factors like injuries, legal troubles, a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and ventures into acting, he has had limited MMA fights since 2016.

Kavanagh is anticipating meeting McGregor at a movie preview for “Road House” on Amazon Prime, hoping to gain some insight into McGregor’s future plans.

Kavanagh humorously mentioned, “I’ll be seeing him tonight or tomorrow for a movie, and honestly, I tell journalists, ‘You know as much as I do.’ Everyone’s hoping for some exclusive info.”

He added, “Conor’s always on the move, so I don’t dwell on it every day. I’ll talk to him once the fight is confirmed and find out from him.”

In a recent interview, UFC President Dana White hinted that McGregor’s financial status may have delayed his return. However, McGregor himself mentioned that his interest waned as his fight plans were repeatedly postponed.

Kavanagh emphasized that McGregor is eagerly awaiting any updates.

When asked if McGregor was prepared to fight, Kavanagh confidently responded, “Yes.”
