Lightweight prospect Curmel Moton will reportedly be fighting on the undercard of David Benavidez vs. David Morrell on February 1st in 40 days on PBC on Prime Video PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The 18-year-old unbeaten Moton’s opponent and the rest of the card have yet to be announced. It likely won’t be any notable name for Moton, as he’s still a teenager and being matched VERY carefully by his promoter.
It’ll be interesting to see which division the 5’4″ Moton (6-0, 5 KOs) will fight in for this contest. He weighed 139 3/4 lbs for his last fight against Hilario Martinez Moreno on October 12th in Philadelphia. For Moton to already be having weight problems at 18 suggests he’s going to be up to welterweight at some point soon and be food for the monsters in that division.
Although Moton destroyed Moreno in the first round, his coming in overweight, near the 140-lb limit, is a red flag that he may be forced to move up to light welterweight soon. At 5’4″, Moton is on the small size for that division and will have problems against the taller fighters. He’s built like a fire hydrant with a squarish shape, and you can tell from looking at him that he’s going to have problems if he moves up to 140 or higher.
Building A Record
Moton is one of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s proteges, and he’s expected to bring him along slowly as he did with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, feeding him soft edibles to build a record to create a money-maker.
If Moton follows the same script as Tank, he may not ever be a 50-50 fight until late in his career when he’s in his 30s. Tank still hasn’t been in a 50-50, and he’s been in the pro game for 11 years. So, what does that tell you about how Moton will be brought along? You’d to think that Moton won’t be brought along like Tank, but it’s a sure thing that he will.
