Although Damian Priest’s time as World Heavyweight Champion was brief, there were many highs and lows during his reign.

In a recent interview with “The Takedown,” Priest reflected on the unpredictable events surrounding his title win at WrestleMania 40.

“That entire day at WrestleMania 40 was chaotic,” Priest shared. “Many things were constantly changing. As we approached the event, knowledgeable individuals warned me that things could change at any moment. I was aware that anything could happen, even up until the last second.”

In the world of professional wrestling, plans can shift unexpectedly, a sentiment that was evident in the lead-up to WrestleMania. Priest stayed focused on the world championship match between then-champion Seth Rollins and former champion Drew McIntyre, hoping that his own aspirations would stay on course.

“I was stationed in Gorilla throughout the entire match, fully concentrated on the bout,” Priest recounted. “I had to maintain that focus; otherwise, I would have been overwhelmed. Once the final bell rang, it all became reality. Like I mentioned, it was a whirlwind.”

Priest emerged victorious by defeating McIntyre and claiming the World Heavyweight Championship, enjoying a 118-day reign. He later lost the title to Gunther at SummerSlam after a interference from former Judgement Day stablemate Finn Balor. Priest has since teamed up with former WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley as The Terror Twins, transitioning into key roles as two of “Raw’s” leading good guys.
