Dana White expressed his belief to reporters that if Colby Covington had faced Joaquin Buckley in Las Vegas, the cut over his eye would not have resulted in a stoppage. However, he noted that Covington didn’t seem particularly upset about the decision (via MMAJunkie).

“Listen, Colby’s an older guy that fights every once in a while,” White told MMA Junkie and other reporters after the fight at UFC on ESPN 63. “He’s always durable and he’s always tough. … I also feel like Colby wasn’t too pissed that the fight got stopped by the cut. It was definitely bothering him.”

“It was definitely bothering him, and as soon as the corner would fix it, he would walk back out and rip it open again, making it start bleeding once more. That alone tells you that the cut was bothering him big time.”

As for Covington’s future, that will be an intriguing storyline to follow in 2025. The former interim titleholder is set to turn 37 years old in February. He must decide whether to continue his fighting career or pivot to a different path in life. In the past, he has hinted at an interest in transitioning to professional wrestling.
