Ferguson, a former interim lightweight champion, suffered a clear defeat to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296, marking his seventh consecutive loss. This streak ties a UFC record set by former champion BJ Penn.
Despite UFC CEO Dana White suggesting that Ferguson take a break from the sport after his loss to Pimblett, Ferguson has indicated that he has no plans to retire.

Sharing his perspective on Ferguson’s situation, Cormier, a former UFC champion, expressed his belief that it’s time for Ferguson to walk away from professional fighting.
“I think Tony Ferguson is done,” said Daniel Cormier on DC&RC. “Call it what you will. I believe Tony Ferguson should retire. I try to avoid showing men the door because I know the job is done. Until then, no one will know when the work is done.”
“Only Tony knows when that time will come,” Cormier added. “But he seems to be the only one left who isn’t sure. Everyone else is pretty sure the time has come for Tony Ferguson.”
