Daniel Dubois, the current IBF heavyweight champion, is set on achieving the title of “King-slayer” on September 21st in his match against Anthony Joshua, known as the “King,” at Wembley Stadium in England.
Anthony Joshua, boasting a record of 28 wins and 3 losses with 25 knockouts, is looked at as a King in waiting after his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021. Despite his recent victories, Joshua still needs to win two more fights to reclaim his top position.
Promoter Eddie Hearn didn’t have to request the IBF to strip Usyk of his title, as Usyk willingly gave it up to Dubois. Dubois is gearing up for his first title defense against Joshua on the upcoming match.
At a recent press briefing, Hearn mentioned that Joshua’s upcoming battle against Dubois is a big step towards Joshua becoming a three-time heavyweight champion. If the IBF championship was unavailable, other potential opponents for Joshua on September 21st were speculated to be Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker.
Dubois has made it his goal to be crowned King-slayer by defeating Joshua in their upcoming fight. He is focused on intense training and plans to showcase his skills in the ring.
Criticism has been directed towards the undercard of the event for lacking excitement, as former champion Josh Warrington is getting a title shot despite losing his last two matches. Nevertheless, Hearn is hopeful about the event, believing it is a significant progression towards determining the undisputed heavyweight champion.
