Danielle Kelly isn’t looking to make big changes in her career and preparations ahead of her next outing under the ONE Championship banner.
The submission grappling star has already achieved a lot of success in the promotion’s atomweight division. In her last appearance at ONE Fight Night 24 in August, Kelly suffered her first loss in ONE when she lost her world championship to Mayssa Bastos. It was a closely contested clash, so there isn’t any need to totally rewrite the playbook ahead of their upcoming rematch.
To prepare for ONE Fight Night 26 on Dec. 6, the former ONE atomweight submission grappling queen has been keeping things simple. In a recent interview with ONE Championship, she spoke about how if anything, she has taken things even more back to basics, which has helped her focus on the task at hand: “Not really. I’ve been training the same, but I would say, like, for me now, I’m doing less travelling because I felt like I was always driving to people to train, but I feel like the less distractions I have, the more secured and I feel less stressed, I would say. Just working on small details, but still going hard in training, challenging myself.”
Danielle Kelly wasn’t left with too many unanswered questions following her first meeting with Mayssa Bastos. She was able to use her work rate and wrestling to cause the Brazilian some problems and will now look to increase that in her return to Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. In order to reclaim the world championship, she will need to be better than she was before, but that’s not to say that she needs to make huge adjustments.
For Kelly, it’s the small changes that will add up to make a big difference in her second encounter with Bastos. ONE Fight Night 26 will be available to all active Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America.
