Super middleweight standout David Benavidez is keen on the idea of stepping into the ring with the undisputed divisional champion, Canelo Alvarez. Benavidez recently turned to Instagram to contact Saudi sports figure Turki Alalshikh.

In his post, Benavidez reached out to @turkialalshik proposing to host the most significant and thrilling fight in Saudi Arabia. Declaring it as the most significant Mexican vs. Mexican American bout in boxing history, he suggested Saudi Arabia as the ideal venue for the world to witness this battle of pride and glory. Benavidez underlined that his drive is for greatness, not wealth. He even pledged that if he fails to defeat Canelo, he would donate his entire purse to a children’s charity chosen by Alalshikh. On the other hand, if he emerges victorious, a substantial part of his earnings would go towards combating children’s hunger globally. Displaying his commitment to the people, Benavidez assured, “@premierboxing @wbcboxing @wbcmoro

Despite Benavidez’s enthusiasm, Canelo hasn’t displayed immediate interest in facing him. Nonetheless, Canelo faced backlash in the past for delaying bouts with Gennady Golovkin. However, he eventually engaged in three intense matches, securing two wins (though many believed Golovkin should have won the initial fight). This history leaves room for speculation that a match between Canelo and Benavidez might occur down the line.

Benavidez and fans are eager for this potential showdown, considering it one of the most anticipated fights in boxing. While Benavidez appears to be the rightful next challenger for Canelo, the champion’s title gives him the authority to dictate the terms of the fight.

Saudi Arabia has increasingly become a significant location for top-tier boxing due to substantial financial injections into the sport, making it a fitting host for major fights. Despite this, Canelo still prefers fighting in the US and Mexico. He recently stated that a lucrative offer of $150-200 million would compel him to face Benavidez, as reported by Fight Hub.
