Big changes are coming to WWE Friday Night SmackDown in 2025, as reports suggest the show is set to expand to three hours. While fans have been anticipating this move for months, WWE has yet to confirm the news, leaving plenty of speculation in its wake.
This potential shift coincides with Monday Night Raw returning to three hours when it moves to Netflix in January. Raw scaled back to a two-hour format in October to bridge the gap between its exit from the USA Network and its Netflix debut. WWE struck a short-term deal with USA to keep Raw airing through the end of the year.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, SmackDown’s move to three hours is likely to happen in January, but the exact timing remains undecided.
“We did mention here on WrestleVotes Radio in the past, SmackDown will be moving to three hours. However, we are told that isn’t a guarantee to be starting the same week as Raw moves to Netflix. Now, we’re hearing the plan is still to extend SmackDown to three hours this coming January. However, it is to be determined if it will go down the first week of 2025 when Raw shifts or later on in the month,” WrestleVotes reported.
Fans have expressed mixed feelings about the possible extension. While some are excited for more in-ring action and storytelling, others worry that the extra hour could dilute the show’s quality. SmackDown has long been celebrated for its tighter pacing and engaging narratives, and a three-hour format could bring significant challenges.
WWE is clearly shaking things up in 2025, and with Raw’s Netflix deal already drawing attention, SmackDown’s potential expansion only adds to the intrigue. Whether this change happens immediately in January or later in the month, fans are eager to see how WWE handles the transition.
