Demetrious Johnson has recently announced his retirement from MMA, citing a lack of enjoyment in mixed martial arts as the primary reason. The former UFC flyweight champion, celebrated for defending his title 11 times, disclosed that he now finds more fulfillment in training alongside fellow athletes from his era. Johnson, who also holds the ONE Championship flyweight title, expressed his preference for grappling and jiu-jitsu, activities that consistently challenge and push him to learn and grow.

Despite remaining active in grappling competitions, Johnson no longer feels that he is progressing as a fighter in MMA. He noted that following each fight, although he may have secured another victory and financial reward, he didn’t feel a sense of advancement and development. Johnson’s last MMA fight took place in May 2023, where he successfully defended his ONE flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory.
