Devin Haney took to Instagram to express his desire for a rematch with Ryan Garcia. This call for a rematch comes after Haney’s recent loss to Garcia at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Despite holding a significant advantage, Haney was defeated by Garcia in a 12-round fight. Haney stated, “Although I didn’t come out on top in this boxing match, my competitive spirit always drives me to face the best fighters in the world.”
The WBC junior welterweight champion commended Garcia for his victory. Haney mentioned, “Ryan emerged victorious that night under those circumstances, and I acknowledge that.” Haney expressed his desire to have a fair fight within the agreed-upon weight limit with Garcia. This reference was to Garcia weighing over the junior welterweight limit in their previous bout, which impacted the fight outcome. Despite facing setbacks, Haney remains focused on delivering competitive matches.
“As of now, I am observing Ramadan and spending quality time with my loved ones. I appreciate the support from my fans and everyone involved in organizing the event. Stay tuned for my upcoming plans after Ramadan!” Haney expressed his gratitude to Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, for facilitating the fight.
Showing appreciation, Haney thanked Oscar, Golden Boy, Eddie Hearn, Matchroom, DAZN, Mauricio, WBC, and DHP for their contributions to the boxing event. However, De La Hoya dismissed the possibility of a rematch, wishing Haney and his team success in their future endeavors. Garcia’s unconventional behavior prior to the fight, combined with his failure to meet the weight requirement, led to uncertainties regarding the match’s outcome, which favored Garcia in the end.
