Devin Haney took to social media to announce that his upcoming fight with Ryan Garcia is set for April 20th. Haney suggested that Ryan’s recent erratic behavior was a deliberate “act” aimed at drumming up excitement for their DAZN PPV bout at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As of now, the fight is still on, leaving fans speculating whether Ryan’s behavior is a publicity stunt.

If concerns about Ryan’s mental well-being were genuine, DAZN would likely have reconsidered the match to avoid any negative perception. Nonetheless, the spectacle of Ryan’s antics does bring a negative light to the event promotion.

Devin’s assertion that Ryan is feigning unpredictability isn’t surprising, given that this behavior only surfaced recently. Prior to this, Ryan seemed normal despite previously mentioning substance use.

Haney doubts Garcia’s authenticity

“Ryan deserves an Oscar for this performance. It’s all an act. The fight is set for April 20th. He’s simply playing up his behavior for ‘promotion’, although it’s peculiar given there are individuals dealing with actual mental health issues. He’s just seeking attention,” commented Devin Haney on Ryan Garcia’s recent conduct since last Sunday.

While some speculate that Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) may have suddenly exhibited signs of schizophrenia, the swift onset of symptoms overnight from last Sunday raises doubts about the authenticity of his actions.

Strategic marketing move?

Devin’s statements suggest that Ryan’s theatrics are a ploy to garner attention, create a perception of instability, and pique interest in their upcoming fight.

Comparisons have been drawn to Teofimo Lopez’s similar antics before his showdown with Josh Taylor. Teofimo’s portrayal of instability led many to believe he was on the verge of a breakdown. However, it turned out to be a ruse as he emerged victorious against Taylor, reverting to normal behavior post-fight.
