LAS VEGAS – It’s been nearly five years since Dooho Choi has experienced the satisfaction of receiving an extra $50,000 bonus check on his flight home from a fight.
There’s a notable asterisk next to that statistic regarding UFC post-fight bonuses for the South Korean fighter, as he had to return home to fulfill a mandatory two-year military service. He came back in 2023, and with two fights into his return, he is undoubtedly aiming for those additional bonuses once again.
At UFC 310 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Choi (15-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) will kick off the main card in a featherweight clash with Nate Landwehr (18-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) that screams “Fight of the Night potential.”
Before his military service, Choi received five consecutive post-fight bonuses, three of which were for Fight of the Night in losses. This is an interesting point, considering that he did not receive a bonus for his draw with Kyle Nelson nearly two years ago or his decision win over Bill Algeo in July, which was his first victory in more than eight years.
Choi believes he needs dance partners who are equally willing to share the intensity and excitement in the ring.
“For my last two fights, I didn’t really have the opportunity to a banger fight to the fans,” Choi said through a translator during Wednesday’s UFC 310 media day. “I’m going to grab this opportunity against Nate Landwehr and I’m going to show a slugfest to the fans.”
“I totally love that hyper-aggressiveness (he has). I totally agree with his mindset and I expect us both to be in the octagon on fight night and be hyper-aggressive to each other.”
