Long-standing rival Israel Adesanya hints at a potential rematch with mutual adversary Sean Strickland in last year’s championship bout in Australia. Du Plessis, the reigning middleweight champion, is open to defending his title against City Kickboxing at UFC 305 in Perth this August.
Du Plessis secured a narrow split decision victory over Strickland in their previous title clash at UFC 297 in Canada earlier this year.
Adesanya, who has been inactive since losing his title to Strickland in Sydney, is eager for a showdown with du Plessis. Head coach Eugene Bearman confirms their readiness to seize the opportunity if a spot in the UFC 305 Championship becomes available.
“Israel will be competing for the title soon,” Bearman stated. “As soon as we have a date, we’ll be prepared to take on the challenge.”
“Israel is insistent on his title fight aspirations,” Bearman emphasized. “The decision is not up to du Plessis, but I hope champions have a say in their matchups. However, that might not be the case.”
