Dorikas du Plessis urges Israel Adesanya not to take an extended break.

Following his loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 in September, former two-time UFC middleweight champion Adesanya (24-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) mentioned his plans to take some time off. While he joked about returning in 2027, du Plessis (20-2 MMA, 6-0 UFC) cautions that taking too much time off could have negative consequences.

Referring to Adesanya’s activity as a champion, du Plessis said, “He deserves some time away from the sport. He mentioned 2027. If he comes back in 2027, he’s going to get hurt. He shouldn’t do that. I think he’s earned it. As one of the best middleweights of all time, I think he deserves some time off.”

Du Plessis, who was set to face Adesanya but suffered an injury, emphasizes the need for Adesanya to remain strong both inside and outside the ring. He is set to challenge Strickland for the middleweight title at UFC 297 on January 20th at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
