Edgar Berlanga is set to take on Padraig McCrory this Saturday night, February 24th at Caribe Royal Orlando in Orlando, Florida. It will be a significant match broadcasted on DAZN.
Undefeated super middleweight contender Berlanga (21-0, 16 KOs) recently faced a tough fight against Jason Quigley last summer, where he wasn’t at his best. Despite his illness, he faced a determined opponent in Quigley.
At 26, Berlanga will need to up his game against the undefeated McCrory to avoid a potential loss, similar to what he experienced against Quigley.
Berlanga, promoted by Eddie Hearn, has his eyes set on a title shot against Canelo Alvarez or a match against Jaime Munguia, but a win against the undefeated McCrory (18-0, 9 KOs) is essential for his future prospects.
Although initially enthusiastic about signing Berlanga, Hearn has struggled to set up big-name fights for him. Berlanga signed with Matchroom in February last year on a multi-fight deal but has only fought once, defeating Jason Quigley.
With two fights left on his Matchroom contract, Berlanga will need to impress if he hopes to secure a new deal.
“Quigley has been improving. I knocked him down four times, especially in the crucial 12th round, but he kept getting back up. He never gave up,” said Edgar Berlanga about his last fight with Jason Quigley at Madison Square Garden in New York last June.
“A lot of these fighters approach the fight with a different mindset when facing me,” Berlanga remarked.
“After watching the fight, I believe I have more than what I need. I’m a different fighter,” Padraig McCrory said after watching Berlanga’s last bout with Quigley.
“Winning not only means a lot to me, but it will mean a lot to the community as well. It’s a huge thing for West Belfast,” McCrory added.
“I believe that one more punch can change a life. I truly believe it will happen. I will go down in Irish boxing history,” McCrory expressed.
