Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are gearing up for a highly anticipated rematch on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. These two heavyweight titans will be battling for three of the four major belts in the division.
In May, Fury experienced a split-decision loss to Usyk, which thwarted his efforts to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. Determined to reclaim his groundbreaking career trajectory, Fury immediately initiated a contractual rematch clause following the fight.
Duke McKenzie MBE, a former champion who secured world titles across three weight classes, has expressed skepticism about Fury’s chances in the upcoming bout. He recently shared his insights in an interview.
According to McKenzie, “Fury’s legs are completely shot to pieces. He can’t bounce around the ring for twelve rounds, he proved that in the last fight. He’s not the same as when he beat Klitschko.”
McKenzie suggests that Fury’s recent weight gain indicates he’s gearing up for one final significant showdown. Observing Fury’s approach, McKenzie remarked that Fury seems to be thinking, “If I’m going out, I’m going out on my shield on my terms.”
The former champion speculates that Fury’s only hope might be a puncher’s chance, yet even that seems improbable. He elaborated on his viewpoint, stating, “Usyk doesn’t go down unless it’s a low blow. We’ve never seen Usyk rocked or really hurt. He managed to disguise when he was hurt in their previous fight. Usyk is too smart and would have learned from previous mistakes.”
Scheduled just before Christmas in Saudi Arabia, this fight promises to be a spectacle. Fans will be eager to see if Fury can silence his critics, or if Usyk will solidify his standing at the pinnacle of the heavyweight division.
