Former Coach Dubois Assesses Judges’ Verdict in Usyk vs. Fury Rematch

Shane McGuigan, former coach of IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, believes that Oleksandr Usyk narrowly defeated Tyson Fury.

“The gap on the judges’ notes was a little big. I got a 7-5. I think I even gave a draw in the ninth or tenth round. I think the strongest man won, but Fury had excellent success in the fight; however, he just switched off,” McGuigan stated.

When Fury conducted attacks, he then visibly disengaged and failed, which allowed Usyk to catch him on counterattacks. Two minutes of great work and then Fury was shutting down at the end. Unfortunately, in such rounds, the judges favored the stronger finisher, and it was the champion,” McGuigan explained in an interview with YouTube channel The Stomping Ground.

Recall that on December 21, Usyk defeated Fury in a rematch by unanimous decision of the judges.
