Former UFC and WWE commentator Jimmy Smith criticizes Ronda Rousey – New York Post

Jimmy Smith and Ronda Rousey may not see eye to eye in the foreseeable future.

Smith served as a color commentator for the UFC in 2018 and as a play-by-play broadcaster for WWE for approximately 16 months starting in 2022.

He currently hosts “Unlocking the Cage,” a show focused on mixed martial arts on SiriusXM, and during Monday’s show, he delved into Rousey’s treatment of various behind-the-scenes employees, sparking intense backlash.

He initiated the discussion by highlighting Rousey’s tendency to seek acknowledgment for her victories while evading responsibility for her losses in the Octagon.

“I usually don’t air backstage grievances, whether in the UFC or WWE,” Smith noted.

“Let me make this clear – Ronda, if you’re tuning in… the crew behind the scenes – the camera operators, sound technicians, individuals you belittle, intimidate, and speak condescendingly to – have endured your behavior. I cannot condone it.”

Mr. Smith elaborated on the reasons behind their sentiments.

“Everyone working backstage who had to mic up Ronda Rousey couldn’t stand her,” Smith continued.

“I asked, ‘Why?’ Their response was, ‘She was disrespectful towards us from the moment she arrived until she departed.’ For instance, if she’s discontent during an interview to promote her upcoming match, she directs her frustration and rudeness towards us, which is why we find her insufferable.”

Rousey competed in the UFC from 2012 to 2016 and in WWE from 2017 until last year.

According to Smith, several UFC staff members cheered when Rousey faced losses against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes, resulting in knockouts.

“They were actually applauding when she made her entrance. That’s the feedback I received,” Smith revealed.

“Since these individuals cannot retaliate and are subject to mistreatment, they developed strong aversion towards Ronda Rousey.”

Smith’s segment followed Rousey recently participating in an interview with NewsNation. She addressed how people within the UFC, including Joe Rogan, started to turn against her once her dominance waned.
