Last Friday, I went to Pathum Thani province north of Bangkok with Nort Beauchamp (19-7-1, 3 KOs). Beauchamp, a skilled fighter, was set to spar with WBA titlist Thammanoon Niyomtrong (24-0, 9 KOs), also known as Knockout CP Freshmart, at the Thai Payak Boxing Gym. The gym, owned by former WBC flyweight champion Chatchai Sasakul, is where Niyomtrong trains for his upcoming bout against Alex Winwood (4-0, 2 KOs) on September 7.
Sasakul, Niyomtrong’s coach, foresees a challenging fight but has faith in his fighter’s capabilities. Niyomtrong, with experience in winning fights internationally, was getting ready for the sparring session, demonstrating his excellent timing and physical condition.
After a successful career in Muay Thai, Niyomtrong switched to professional boxing, securing numerous titles along the way. Now, at 33 years old, he is getting ready to defend his title against Winwood, an up-and-coming Australian talent.
Post a demanding sparring session, Niyomtrong displayed confidence in his readiness and strategy for the upcoming match. He respects Winwood’s skills but trusts that his experience and determination will guide him to triumph.
As the sole boxing world champion from Thailand, Niyomtrong considers it a privilege to represent his country and is resolved to demonstrate that he is the top contender in his weight class. With a steadfast focus on the challenge ahead, he is prepared to assert that his championship title rightly belongs in Thailand.
