A new UFC 302 heavyweight matchup featuring Jailton Almeida has been officially announced.
Almeida is set to take on Alexander Romanov at a pay-per-view event scheduled for June 1 in Newark, New Jersey. This fight confirmation was first reported by Ag.Fight and corroborated by sources familiar with the MMA news.
Originally slated to face Alexander Volkov in the event, Almeida saw a change in opponents as UFC CEO Dana White revealed that Volkov will now face Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Saudi Arabia on June 22 in Riyadh.
Almeida aims to bounce back from his first UFC defeat, a knockout loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 299. Prior to this loss, the Brazilian fighter had an impressive six-fight win streak.
Romanov, on the other hand, is coming off a comeback victory against Blagoi Ivanov, ending a two-fight skid following five consecutive wins. None of Romanov’s 16 career wins have gone to a judge’s decision.
The main event for UFC 302 is yet to be announced, with the main card scheduled to air on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
