With the UFC signing Mikey Musumeci and actively seeking more Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) talents, Craig Jones has urged grapplers to consider their options carefully before signing exclusive deals.
The inaugural Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) held last August offered the highest prize money ever in jiu-jitsu, resulting in two new millionaires. As the UFC aims to attract more stars, Jones is reminding grapplers that they have many reasons to keep their options available.
“This weekend is your reminder not to sign any exclusive contracts,” Jones remarked while sharing a photo of himself on a pile of cash.
In an exciting announcement, Craig Jones confirmed that CJI 2 is scheduled for August 2025.
“I’m here for a massive announcement. This announcement comes at a very important time, given the boring grappling events that occurred this weekend. But I have received funding for CJI 2,” Jones shared on Instagram. “I can confirm August 2025 in Las Vegas.”
He also took to his Instagram stories to show over $17 million in his account as “proof” that the funding for the second event is secured.
The inaugural CJI event saw Kade Ruotolo and Nick Rodriguez each take home $1 million after winning their respective 16-man tournaments in the -80 kg and over 80 kg divisions. The CJI matches utilized a three-round format with a 10-point must system for judging, aiming to attract MMA fans.
Jones teased that CJI 2 may introduce significant changes in its format.
“Get ready for a massive format change,” he indicated in the caption.
