Jorge Masvidal has named his top six UFC fighters of all time.

Jon Jones is widely regarded as the greatest MMA athlete in history after dominating at light heavyweight for a decade before winning UFC gold at heavyweight in 2023.

Georges St-Pierre, Demetrious Johnson, Anderson Silva, and Khabib Nurmagomedov are just some of the other legends who are often brought up as potential contenders to his crown.

Jorge Masvidal has now narrowed his list down to six. It features several prominent names and a few high-profile omissions that are sure to cause a stir among fans who take part in the GOAT debate.

Jorge Masvidal narrows GOAT debate down to six-person list

The former BMF champion was recently asked to name his top five fighters of all time, and he immediately uttered the name Jon Jones as locked off his number one position.

However, Jorge Masvidal insisted that Jose Aldo is a close second. The featherweight legend dominated at 145lbs for a decade before being KO’d by Conor McGregor in 13 seconds nine years ago.

Ex-champions Demetrious Johnson, Dominick Cruz, Henry Cejudo, and Amanda Nunes rounded out Masvidal’s greatest-of-all-time list, which ended up with six people on it.

“Jon Jones,” Masvidal said when asked to name the best fighters of all time during a recent appearance on The OGs podcast.

“Jose Aldo. Jose Aldo definitely has to be in there. When this guy was in the WEC and UFC, he’s like the one guy who could’ve beaten them all but doesn’t get enough credit.

“I mean, if there’s a guy who could’ve beaten Jon Jones [to top spot], it’s probably this guy, Jose Aldo. He’s fought everyone in the UFC, nobody takes him down and he’s one of the best stand-up strikers ever.

“And he proved it over a long period at one of the most competitive weights in the world at 145lbs. So, I really think Aldo doesn’t get enough credit, but in his prime, this was one of the best fighters walking planet Earth.

“Definitely Jon Jones is on the list. Demetrious Johnson is another animal.

“‘Mighty Mouse’ can do it all. Doesn’t get tired and has an unlimited battery.

“Dominick Cruz is another guy who doesn’t get enough attention. He defended that belt more than anybody else still has at another highly competitive weight, 135lbs. He just had a style of his own, nobody was doing it like Dominick Cruz, so it was hard to prepare for him.

“Another one that’s an all-time great is Henry Cejudo, he is one of my all-time favorites.

“He beat ‘DJ,’ which is [very impressive]. That was an insane fight. A very close fight, but an insane fight. I thought Cejudo won a close fight and then he knocked out Cruz, that was crazy.

“I think if he hadn’t taken his hiatus, he would’ve done a lot more in his career. But I also think Cejudo is one of these guys that on the right night he could’ve beaten anybody because he could wrestle, and he had crazy power.

“Amanda Nunes, scary, scary.”

Jorge Masvidal to make UFC return in 2025

Jorge Masvidal retired from MMA after suffering a fourth consecutive defeat in April 2023.

Since then, he’s crossed over to boxing and gone 1-1 in bouts with Joseph Benjamin and Nate Diaz, who he beat for the BMF belt before being outpointed by the UFC legend in the ring earlier this year.

Now he’s set to return to the UFC after recently revealing his 2025 comeback date.

“I’ll be back in April next year in the UFC,” Masvidal told Jake Shields.

“We don’t have the opponent yet, hopefully by December we’ve got the opponent and April, Miami card.”
