Boxer Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela (13-2, 9 KOs) secured a victory over Chris Colbert with a 6th round knockout in a WBA title eliminator on December 16th. Valenzuela now has his sights set on facing WBA “regular” lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Valenzuela, 24, is confident in his ability to knock out Tank Davis and is eager to pursue this fight next. He also expressed his desire to challenge for the WBA title against another opponent if given the opportunity, emphasizing his goal to secure the mandatory title.

Tank Davis is set to make his first PBC fight on Amazon Prime in early 2024, with a potential rematch against Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz. However, Valenzuela and fans alike are not in favor of this potential rematch, leaving the decision in the hands of PBC.

Reflecting on his previous defeat to Edwin de los Santos last September, Valenzuela believes he has made significant improvements since then. He acknowledged that both fighters were injured in the match, but de los Santos took advantage of Valenzuela’s aggression and scored a knockout.

Valenzuela expressed his hope for a title chance from Tank Davis and emphasized his readiness to face any opponent if the WBA were to strip Tank of the title. Additionally, he expressed his admiration for the possibility of fighting Vasily Lomachenko, acknowledging Lomachenko’s exceptional skills as a fighter.

Looking ahead, Valenzuela mentioned the potential of facing Vasily Lomachenko, who is scheduled to fight George Kambosos Jr., leaving the decision in the hands of Top Rank. He also addressed criticisms related to his losses, stating that he has learned from his past fights and remains confident in his abilities.

When asked about his chances of defeating Tank Davis, Valenzuela responded positively, expressing confidence in his capabilities and emphasizing the lessons he has learned from his previous fights. He also expressed respect for fellow boxer Frank Martin and his desire to step into the ring with him.
