George Kambosos Jr. believes teaming up with his Russian coach will enhance his performance and help him secure a victory against Vasily Lomachenko for the vacant IBF lightweight title on May 11 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Kambosos Jr. (21-2, 10 KOs) mentioned that he has been under the guidance of his Russian coach since his previous bout against Maxi Hughes in July.

While many anticipate Lomachenko to dominate Kambosos, comparing it to Devin Haney’s inability to do so in 24 rounds, Kambosos’ potential path to victory might rely on contentious decisions akin to his bout with Hughes.

It would be unfortunate for the sports realm to witness Kambosos benefiting from another questionable outcome, especially given Lomachenko’s recent disputed loss to Haney. Such a scenario is a real possibility.

Though Kambosos Jr. technically lost to Hughes, the arguable decision in the twelfth round didn’t provide a clear advantage, making it premature to draw any conclusions from that match.

If no visible progress is evident by May 11, Kambosos Jr. could face defeat against the 36-year-old Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs), provided Loma has maintained his skillset during his hiatus from the ring, having lost his fight to Devin Haney in May 2023.

Strategic Edge

“Lomachenko possesses exceptional ring intelligence and footwork, but he tends to be aggressive. I believe that my unique strengths, the enhancements I’ve incorporated into my style, will lead to victory,” shared George Kambosos Jr. in an interview with FightHub TV. The encounter with Vasily Lomachenko took place on May 11 in Perth, Australia, as reported by the channel.YouTube

Kambosos lacks the sheer power to trouble Lomachenko with his “cannonball” tactics. His victory against Teofimo Lopez was more due to Lopez’s psychological and physical state on that particular night.

“I have an excellent Russian coach. We’ve enlisted his expertise and have been training with him for the past eight or nine months since the last fight. Consequently, we’ve made strides and expanded our skillset,” Kambosos expressed.

Strategic Approach

“We possess our own tactical advantages. Should we opt for an aggressive approach? Time will tell. Should we capitalize on our speed? The scenario will dictate. Numerous variables are at play in this fight, but we are prepared to adjust to any situation,” Kambosos mentioned.

Deploying aggressive tactics might not yield success for Kambosos Jr. against Lomachenko. Hence, spectators hope he devises a more effective game plan. However, if Kambosos decides to rely on rough tactics, his home turf provides an ideal setting to test them.

“This will be a remarkable and hard-fought battle. My respect goes out to Lomachenko. He is one of the greatest fighters in history and a future Hall of Famer. I am gearing up to face the best version of Lomachenko on May 12,” Kambosos stated.
