Islam Makhachev’s return to the UFC is unlikely to happen before 2025 due to a hand injury. The current Lightweight champion will not be able to compete in the upcoming November 2024 pay-per-view event as he is still recovering, confirmed by his coach Javier Mendez. This situation is also impacting the plans of No. 1 contender Arman Tsarukyan, who is eyeing a chance at the UFC title in the coming year.

Despite the delay, Tsarukyan is determined to pursue his goal of competing for the title, whether it’s an interim or undisputed championship. He is open to facing other top contenders, like Dan Hooker, Michael Chandler, Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, and Dustin Poirier, for an interim title. Tsarukyan believes that while these fighters are strong contenders, they might not all be the most deserving of the interim title opportunity.
