Matt Cardona, previously known as Zack Ryder during his time in the WWE, has successfully transitioned to the independent wrestling scene and earned the moniker “The Indie God.” His time in Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), where he became the GCW World Champion, has been a pivotal part of this transition. In a recent interview with “WrestleZone,” Cardona shared details about his original short-term agreement with GCW, initially intended for three shows. However, after his first show where he emerged victorious against Nick Gage, Cardona recognized the significance of his tenure in GCW for his career. His surprising success in a death match with Gage further solidified his dedication to GCW, considering it his home promotion in the independent wrestling realm. Despite sustaining a torn pectoral muscle that required surgery, Cardona remains actively engaged with GCW as the new General Manager as he recuperates. One of his early decisions in this capacity was to order a restart of a GCW Championship match between Danhausen and Blake Christian, which had faced controversy previously. It is evident that Cardona’s commitment to GCW extends beyond his in-ring performances, establishing his position within the leadership of the promotion.
