Before joining AEW last year, and officially becoming part of the roster in March, Will Ospreay had discussions with WWE as well. While things didn’t work out with WWE, many speculate on how Ospreay would perform against top talents like Seth Rollins, GUNTHER, and Sami Zayn. During an episode of “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” former AEW star Matt Hardy expressed his views on what a potential Ospreay run in WWE could entail.

Hardy commented, “I believe if Ospreay were to join WWE, his rise to stardom might be slower, but more impactful. He would benefit from the ‘WWE machine’ backing him. Additionally, he would likely delve into more character development, going beyond his natural mic skills.”

Hardy noted that Ospreay’s focus in AEW has predominantly been on in-ring performance, considering his unique style. However, transitioning to WWE would necessitate a shift towards enhancing his character work, a transition that Hardy feels would further endear him to audiences.

Earlier this year, following Ospreay’s debut in AEW, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque commented on “The Pat McAfee Show” about wrestlers who may not be willing to put in the required effort of a WWE performer. Ospreay interpreted this remark as directed at him and retaliated during an episode of “AEW Dynamite,” accusing Levesque of advancing in his career through nepotism.

Currently, Ospreay is under a multi-year contract with AEW, and the promotion has positioned the 30-year-old as one of its key attractions. Having recently engaged in a one-hour match against MJF on “Dynamite,” Ospreay seems set for a rematch against the former AEW World Champion next month at AEW All In.
