Matt and Jeff Hardy faced challenges as a tag team in AEW, which led to some frustration for both brothers. In an episode of “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” Matt expressed disappointment with how they were booked but made it clear that he harbors no hard feelings towards the promotion or its management.

“I just feel that some of the creative choices made after Jeff’s return, where he worked hard for three or four months to regain respect and trust, could have been better utilized. That was my only concern,” Matt revealed. He also mentioned that they were well compensated during their stint in AEW.

During their time in AEW, Jeff Hardy faced legal issues due to a DUI charge, leading to him being absent from television for a few months. This had a negative impact on any momentum the Hardy Boyz had built, and they were rarely featured as a team afterward. Matt Hardy shared that Jeff felt undervalued towards the end of their AEW run and was not offered a contract extension.

Currently, both Matt and Jeff Hardy are not tied to any specific promotion, having previously worked for TNA Wrestling. Despite their time in AEW seemingly coming to a close, Matt expressed that he enjoyed his tenure there, despite occasional frustrations with how they were booked.

“In general, I had a great experience at AEW. I appreciate the roster – a fantastic group of people, including both men and women. I was just frustrated by certain aspects and the fact that some comments might have been misunderstood due to misleading headlines and information taken out of context,” Matt Hardy explained.
