Maven claimed the “myth of Goldberg” died after his fight with Chris Jericho.

The story of the fight between Chris Jericho and Goldberg has been told in many different ways over the years. The pair had animosity all the way back in WCW when Goldberg refused to work with Jericho after being upset by some of his comedy segments mocking the former WCW Champion. They would work together in the WWE, but their most notable encounter happened behind the scenes.

Chris Jericho and Goldberg had a fight backstage in 2003 which Y2J detailed in his first book. Maven spoke about the fight in a talk with Wrestling Shoot Interviews on YouTube. He claimed that the fight signaled the end of the “Goldberg myth” that he was a real tough guy and made him realize that he shouldn’t mess with Chris Jericho.

He explained that he walked in when the pair were being pulled apart. Jericho was in the “dominant position” before they were separated, before the fight restarted and Jericho got the upper hand again.

“Goldberg-Jericho. That was the night the Goldberg myth died, and the Jericho myth was born. I was like, ‘God damn, yo, Chris is not to be toyed with.’ Chris Jericho is light-hearted. Remember earlier, when you were asking about the funniest guys backstage? Chris is up there too, Jericho’s a good time—he’s light-hearted, he’s fun. But he’s also a guy you don’t cross. He’s legit, and he’s not scared at all.”

“I just remember seeing them pulling it apart. I saw guys running up, and Chris… Chris was in the dominant position. Then they separated them, and it started again, and Chris got in the dominant position again. It wasn’t like it was an accident the first time.” Maven said.
