Midnight Mania! Aspinall discusses Pereira and UFC 300 rumors

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

UFC 300 is beginning to take shape, but this highly anticipated event still requires a main event.

Several potential options are being rumored. The possibility of Conor McGregor’s return is always a topic of discussion. Additionally, the upcoming middleweight title fight at UFC 297 between Sean Strickland and Drikas du Plessis will take place this weekend (Saturday, January 20, 2024), with the winner potentially facing Israel Adesanya at UFC 300. There are also speculations about light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira potentially fighting Magomed Ankalaev or moving up to the heavyweight division to face interim champion Tom Aspinall.

The latter seems unlikely, but it could be the type of spectacle UFC 300 is aiming for. Just a month ago, the prospect of Max Holloway’s opponent, Justin Gaethje, defending his BMF belt seemed improbable as well. Perhaps Pereira has a shot at securing a third (interim) belt?

Aspinall doesn’t rule it out. Although he doesn’t seem overly enthusiastic about the idea, he is willing to entertain the possibility if Pereira is interested.

“If he wants it, he’ll have it,” Aspinall stated on his YouTube channel. “But I want to make it clear that I’m not a bully. I don’t pick on smaller guys. However, if the smaller guy wants to fight, I’m in too.”

Luckily for Aspinall, Alex Pereira has always appeared quite imposing in photos. If a two-weight champion is pursuing a third belt, perhaps Pereira will somehow grow in stature like a Pokémon to match his opponent’s height.

We’ll have to wait and see.
