Mike Tyson has picked George Foreman as the heavyweight with power he couldn’t match. Tyson, known for his own ferocious punching, made this surprising admission in a recent interview.
Tyson, nicknamed ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet,’ was a force to be reckoned with in the ring. He won his first 19 professional fights by knockout, with 12 of those coming in the first round. At just 20 years old, he became the youngest world heavyweight champion ever. From 1987 to 1990, he held the undisputed title, and his career ended with an impressive 50 wins, 44 by knockout.
Despite his own accomplishments, Tyson acknowledged Foreman’s superior power. In an interview with FightCamp, Tyson explained:
“I can’t match somebody’s power who’s that big with that much mass. The only thing that allowed me to be exciting was because I threw faster than the other guys.”
Foreman’s career certainly backs up Tyson’s assessment. He was a two-time world heavyweight champion, first winning the title in 1973 by knocking out Joe Frazier in the second round. After a 10-year break from boxing, Foreman made a comeback and shocked the world in 1994. At 45, he became the oldest world heavyweight champion by knocking out Michael Moorer in the tenth round. Foreman’s career record stands at 76 wins and 5 losses, with an astounding 68 victories coming by knockout.
Tyson’s lightning-quick speed and Foreman’s raw power made them both feared in the ring, but in different ways. Their styles set them apart, with Tyson relying on his explosive combinations and Foreman on his sheer strength.
