Leon Edwards has established himself as a powerhouse in the UFC Welterweight category over the last nine years. While he did face a defeat against Kamaru Usman in December 2015, Edwards bounced back with two consecutive victories over Usman and a successful title defense against Colby Covington. Even though Islam Makhachev, the Lightweight titleholder, has shown interest in vying for the Welterweight championship, Edwards feels that both fighters need to focus on their current divisions before considering a showdown.

Edwards’s immediate goal is to defend his title against Belal Muhammad and then possibly move up to contend for the Middleweight title in the future. He envisions a potential blockbuster matchup against Makhachev in the future, but his primary attention lies on his upcoming battles and solidifying his standing in his division.
