England’s ‘Lethal’ Liam Nolan emerged victorious at ONE Fight Night 18, securing a unanimous decision win over Russia’s Ali Aliyev for the ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title. He expressed his desire to pursue the ONE Championship belt on his shoulders after two more fights this year.
In the opening Muay Thai battle of the event at Lumphini Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, Nolan effectively chose his strikes and overcame the towering Aliyev in the first two rounds.
However, the 26-year-old Londoner delivered an explosive performance in the final round. Nolan shook the Russian with a straight left from a southpaw stance early in the round, and proceeded to land significant strikes throughout the fight, including a jumping kick and a spinning back elbow.
In the end, all three judges scored in his favor, maintaining his career record at 22-7. Furthermore, he has emerged victorious in six of his last seven matches.
”I want to fight again as soon as possible. I’m ready,” expressed Nolan in a post-fight interview with ONE Championship commentator Mitch Chilson.
“I have big goals this year. If possible, I would like to have two more fights this year and put the ONE Championship belt on my shoulders.”
Gasanov dominates sua black rise from Canvas to win against IrelandKolodi
In the main event, the exceptional grappling skills of Shamil Gasanov, ranked No. 4 in the featherweight mixed martial arts rankings, proved superior to South Korea’s Oh Ho-taek.
“Cobra” consistently executed his wrestling assault, although he failed to secure a submission despite threatening with numerous attempts throughout the three-round headliner. Nonetheless, Gasanov’s dominance earned him a clear unanimous decision, solidifying his position in the competitive featherweight MMA division.
In the co-main event, emerging bantamweight Muay Thai star Suabrak Thor Pran 49 made a remarkable comeback in front of his fellow countrymen to conquer Irish slugger Stephen Collody.
The Thai striker encountered significant adversity in the second round and was knocked down to the canvas by a powerful right hand from Kolodi. Despite struggling to recover, Suabrac rallied back just moments later, knocking down the Irishman twice.
This impressive recovery led the judges to unanimously award Suabrac the victory, marking his sixth consecutive win.
